Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Therapy

The dreaded “root canal” is a pop culture phenomenon. Root canal treatment is usually no more uncomfortable than having a crown or filling done. You are given anesthesia and are numb during treatment. Awful tooth aches that people can have are the reason for this phenomenon. Generally, a root canal is required to relieve the pain caused by a tooth ache and therefore root canals are associated with tooth aches, ie. pain. It is the root canal treatment however that gives a patient relief from their pain.

Root canal treatment consists of removing the infected pulp, nerves and blood vessels, from the canals within the center of each root. The canals are disinfected, dried and filled. Due to loss of natural tooth structure from decay and root canal treatment, the strength of the tooth is significantly diminished and a crown is usually recommended.

Dental Bridges and Implants

Dental Bridges and Implants

For many people, the thought of losing a tooth is an anxiety provoking event. However, the loss of a tooth doesn’t mean it can’t be replaced with a prosthetic tooth. Both bridges and implants solve this problem. A dental bridge has been the conventional means of replacing missing teeth for a century and is still an excellent means of replacement. A bridge uses teeth on either side of a missing tooth to be used as anchors. It is cemented or glued onto these teeth and replaces the missing tooth with a fake one. It is fixed in place and non-removable. Our other option to replace missing teeth is to have an implant placed. It consists of a titanium fixture (fake root) being placed in the bone where the missing tooth was and given time for bone healing. Once sound, the implant can be restored with a prosthetic tooth that looks and functions as a natural tooth. In either case, the bridge or implant is cared for just as you would your natural teeth.

Crowns

Crowns

If you have a cracked, significantly broken or severely decayed tooth, then a crown is probably indicated to restore your tooth to health and function. A solid foundation of healthy tooth structure is required for a crown placement and in some cases a filling known as a “build up” may be needed to fortify the tooth structure for this solid foundation. The crown completely covers your visible tooth to create a strong, force distributing restoration that allows for solid function for years to come. A crown can be fabricated in gold or tooth colored material.

Fillings

Fillings

Decay or cavities, caused by bacteria, and sometimes small tooth fractures can usually be treated with a simple filling. The decay is removed and one of several options such as silver, composite, gold or porcelain fillings is used to replace missing tooth structure and return your tooth to health and proper function.

Invisalign®

Invisalign®

How does Invisalign Treatment Work? Your Invisalign® clear aligners are custom-made for you. The aligners are virtually invisible and fit snugly over your teeth. Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotating them when needed. Your aligners are engineered to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time. When you change to the next set of aligners (typically every week) your teeth gradually move into position, following a custom treatment plan mapped out by your doctor. Only Invisalign clear aligners are made of proprietary, multilayer SmartTrack® material to gently shift your teeth into place. For more information, visit www.invisalign.com
